Young Alum of the Month: Abbie Loynachan

Name:
Abbie Loynachan
Title and Company:
Production Manager at Sirrah Bios
Hometown:
Cedar Falls, Iowa
Major and Graduation Date:
Microbiology, December 2005
Major Job/Position Responsibilities:

As production manager, I oversee vaccine production and quality assurance/quality control. I participate in management and research meetings. I coordinate tasks with the COO and Director of Product Development. Also, I am responsible for the facilities, equipment, ordering supplies and our controlled document system.

What you like most about your job/position:

What I like most about my job is the variety. Sirrah Bios is a small, start-up company and I have been involved from the beginning. I have had the opportunity to work with the business and science aspects of the company’s growth. I have been able to travel, meet new people, and learn so many new things, both science- and business-related.

What advice would you give to current students:

My advice to students is to get as much training and experience in their field of interest as possible. That is usually the number one item that employers will look for when they are reviewing resumes. Never turn down an opportunity or learning experience.

Favorite ISU class

Medical Microbiology with Drs. Hank Harris and Joan Cunnick. As a student you always want to know how you will use the things you learn in class in the "real world." This class really put microbiology and organisms in real situations.
