Major Job/Position Responsibilities:

My position is in the soybean discovery research group, where we are working to improve soybean quality traits.  Most of my time is spent in the lab using model plant and microbial systems to find new targets for genome editing.  My responsibilities include developing methods for evaluation of gene variants as well as experimental planning and execution.

What you like most about your job/position:

I love that I get to apply concepts that I learned at ISU, but I also learn new things every day.  My position is challenging yet rewarding, and I really enjoy working with the people in my group.  It is great to know that my research contributes to overcoming agricultural challenges.

What advice would you give to current students:

I think getting experience outside the classroom is very important.  Participating in summer internships helped me decide on a career and led me to pursue a graduate degree.  You really don’t know if you will like a job until you try it!  The career fair is a great place to look for internship opportunities and to practice interacting with professionals.
