Young Alum of the Month: Staci Schmitt

Name:
Staci Schmitt
Title and Company:
Seed Research Assistant Environmental Health & Safety Technician at Monsanto
Hometown:
Winthrop, Iowa
Major and Graduation Date:
Agronomy with a Minor in Agricultural Systems Technology, May 2006
Major Job/Position Responsibilities:

I work in seed corn research maintaining plots and collecting data throughout the farming seasons. I also lead the site’s safety program.

What you like most about your job/position:

I enjoy the variety of my day-to-day tasks because with the changing seasons there are very few days that we do the same job. I enjoy the challenges that come with the job, we started a brand new site for Monsanto in northeast Iowa and safety was one of those challenges since we started from scratch!

What advice would you give to current students:

I would say the biggest thing is to network and do an internship. Within the seed industry I see so many faces that I have encountered at college or at another company where I interned. People can be very helpful, but sometimes you need to be outgoing and ask, so get out there and talk to people.
