My territory is the state of Nebraska and 4 counties in Iowa. With the customers that I work with, my responsibility is to create value within the accounts by providing solutions to fit their needs. Sometimes this is using vaccines and other times it is one of the many solutions we offer. My goal for each one of my customers is help them be successful in any way possible. Solutions we provide include: diagnostics, doing vaccine compliance audits, parasite evaluations, and sharing new beneficial information with customers. I also use our RP technology vaccine (formerly Harris Vaccines) to provide custom vaccines to specific diseases at the farm level.
Prior to being on the sales team Merck, I worked in Swine marketing still with Merck. The skills that I learned in marketing are what I feel make me successful today, especially understanding how a business is run. In this role, I gained insight that benefits the customers that I work with today.
I enjoy getting to work with various people with different challenges and needs. As a sales rep, figuring out those wants and personal needs can be a challenge at times, but the reward when those are figured out is impactful. Each day is something different. When you know you made an impact on a customer, that’s what it’s all about.
If I had to go back and redo my college time, I would take more business classes. It’s really important to know the basis of running an operation, balance sheets, and understanding the markets.
Challenge yourself now. Try something new such as a new club, study aboard or volunteer somewhere. It’s the little things like that by getting involved will pay big rewards later in life.
It’s really a great time to be in agriculture. It’s a growing industry and every person counts. From my point of view, it’s a very rewarding career as well.
