  • Veterinary Services is a vital program of the U.S. Department of Agriculture. We work at the forefront of animal health in a changing world.

Now more than ever, protecting animal health is a complex job. It intersects with some of the most pressing issues of our time: climate change, diseases that can spread from animals to people, global population growth, food security, and public health. We respond to disease emergencies; manage national programs to control or eliminate animal diseases; conduct diagnostic testing; ensure pure, safe, potent, and effective veterinary biologics; and facilitate the safe trade of animals and animal products.

We take a One Health approach, knowing that animals, people, and the environment are interconnected. Diseases like influenza and coronavirus (COVID-19), for example, show the link between animal and human health. Every day, our experts work with partners across all disciplines—here at home and around the world—to find the best health outcomes for all.
