Favorite ISU class:  My favorite class at Iowa State was Animal Science 337: Lactation with Dr. Timms. The course was super informative and eye-opening as we learned about the root of all dairy products and the different factors that impact milk production.  We also explored the lactation of various mammalian species, so now I hold a lot of fun facts. 

Job Title & Company:  Integrated Communications Coordinator at Dairy West

Major Job/Position Responsibilities:  My overarching responsibility is to help build trust and demand for dairy.  Dairy West is the regional dairy checkoff of Idaho and Utah, so we support our area dairy farmers by marketing and communicating on their behalf.  I work on the communications team where I explore various ways to reach consumers through social media, digital marketing, and traditional media. 

What do you like most about your job/position?  What I love most about my job is that I am working on behalf of an industry I am so passionate about and one that is dear to my heart.  I grew up on a dairy farm, and at a young age, I realized that I wanted to support dedicated and resilient dairy farm families, like my own.  Farmers need marketers in their corner to reach consumers and share the story of agriculture, so they can continue to focus on and be successful with their operations. 

What advice would you give to current students pursuing a career in Agriculture and Life Sciences?  Dare to do something different.  My favorite memories are from when I tried something outside of my comfort zone.  During my time at Iowa State, I encountered many opportunities where I was interested but not fully committed.  I decided to move forward with caution and curiosity.  Instead of rejecting opportunities, I learned to say "maybe" and continued to explore until I knew for certain.  It's easy to look at what's on your plate, decide it's too much, and make a quick decision. Some of my biggest accomplishments and experiences are from when I refused to say "no" and gave things further consideration.
